the barn - first thatched roof i've seen (not sure it counts to have metal netting on top)

My hosts, Leslie (male) and Laura, at The Old Forge B&B weren't around to pick me up yet (i arrived a little early), so I made my way - suitcase in tow- the Red Lion Inn and had a pint. I sat next to a guy from New Zealand who had been stranded in the UK due to the volcano eruption in Iceland. We chatted for about an hour or so until I hooked up with Leslie. Leslie took my bags back to the B&B, while I stayed behind to walk around. I started my 4 mile journey around the stone circle.the inner circle - the larger one is kind of sparse these days.
The way I understand it (again too lazy to get up and double check the facts), there is a smaller stone circle inside the bigger 4 mile version. Back in the day, the Druids, or whatever ancient folks were around, would gather around the larger circle, while ceremonies took place inside the inner circle. There is also a pathway that leads from the larger circle into the smaller circle. I can only imagine how many people over the ages have walked along the same path I did today.
standing on sacred ground.
The path also connects to a hillside that leads up to what they call the Long Barrow. It predates the stone circle by 1000 years or so. The sign at the site said it was a burial ground.
the Long Barrow
The front chamber is the only one to be excavated. Have I mentioned that I am basically the only one on these grounds today - it was wonderful until I got to the Long Barrow and decided to go into the darkness.

I got a little creeped out. I flashed my camera several times just to scared all the ghosties outta there before I went in. As you can see from this picture, there is an energy orb trying to intimidate me. But I went in! I'm not going to post pictures because I don't want to scare you folks. There was weird juju in there. I got out pretty quickly, and started my mile walk back to the B&B. The sun was out to and the hillside was super green. The sky was blue, the clouds were beautiful.
this picture is not color corrected.
There was a lone tree on my hike home. It had ribbons, wind chimes, and other offerings in it. I wanted to add my wish, assuming that's what they were, but didn't have anything to tie on it. I did find a rock in my bag that I picked up at the beach in Arch Cape OR. There was a hole under an exposed root of the tree, so I held the rock, made my wish, and threw it down the hole. There is probably one pissed of animal down there wanting to know where that rock came from.
I continued my walk to The Old Forge as the sun was setting.
I was greeted back at the B&B by Leslie who had just cut some fresh daffodils by the creek across from the house. We chatted for a bit, then he wished me a good night. My room is on the second floor and overlooks that little creek. I opened the sky light windows to let the fresh air in my room. There were tons of birds chirping as the sun set. The country side is so gorgeous. I felt like the last person on Earth today. Like all this was here for only my eyes to see. I feel so fortunate. There will never be another day like today.I really liked my time in London - but today was the best day.... so far!
